I just wanted to make a quick clarification. The City's tax rate in American Fork (.0020717%) is actually less than the City's tax rate in Provo (.002122%). The overall property tax is comprised of city, school district, and other special service districts such as sewer and waste disposal. These factors may combine to make the overall property tax in Provo less, but Provo City itself charges a slightly higher property tax than American Fork City.

I stand corrected on the Provo situation. My data simply came from a comparison of the total property tax between my brother, who is a Provo resident, and my own household. However, I still maintain that an increase of 50% of the cities portion is unjustified in a time when we should be tightening purse strings rather than expanding. Aside from the reasons I mentioned above, there is also the issue of higher food and gas prices, etc. in a tough economy.
